c. If there is a lienholder on the vehicle, the lienholder must complete and sign the designated area on the “Seller” side of the title, releasing their interest in the vehicle.
2. Buyer’s Responsibility:
a. The buyer must ensure that all information on the “Buyer” side of the vehicle title is correctly filled out.
b. The buyer’s name and address should match their driver’s license or identification card.
3. Vehicle Odometer Reading:
a. The seller must disclose the vehicle’s current odometer reading on the vehicle title.
b. If the vehicle is over 10 years old or exceeds 16,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, it is considered exempt, and the odometer reading does not need to be provided.
4. Bill of Sale:
a. While a Bill of Sale is not legally required in Minnesota, it is recommended to have one for documentation purposes.
b. A Bill of Sale should include the vehicle’s make, model, year, VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), seller’s and buyer’s names, addresses, purchase price, and date of sale.
5. Signatures:
a. Both the seller and buyer must sign their names on the designated lines on the vehicle title.
b. Please ensure that each signature matches the printed names of the individuals.
6. Notarization (if applicable):
a. Minnesota does not require notarization of vehicle titles for private party sales.

a. After signing the vehicle title, the seller should immediately notify the Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) by completing an online Notice of Sale or Registration (Form PS2000).
